Plants are living things and hence they need special attention. You should always take the plants along with you in your car. Because, temperatures inside the moving van are always on the extreme. They are either too hot or too cold for your plants. More over plants need fresh air for their survival when they travel.
A moving company will accept plants as shipments only when you are moving less than 150 miles and the foreseen delivery is within 24 hours from the time of loading. If these limits are crossed no one will accept your plants as shipments. There is a law which states exactly this.Let your mover know that you are moving your plants. Special materials needed for packing the plants may be available for purchase.
Legal regulations
States like Florida, California and Arizona have stringent rules on Plants transportation. Some states require a “Gypsy Moth Inspection Certificate”. Consult your state Department of Agriculture or Department of Natural Resources and get the present prevailing regulations of your destination state.
General rule is that your plants should have been grown indoors and that too on sterilized potting soil. This special kind of soil can be easily got from a nearby lawn and garden shop. The soil you buy should be a right composition of loam, peat or sand needed for your plants.
